Thursday: Rebecca Kaplan fundraiser/VP Debate watching party

I’m sure you guys were all already planning on watching Biden and Palin debate on Thursday. You know what’s way more fun than watching stuff by yourself at home? Watching at a party with lots of other people. And that why Becks has taken it upon herself to put together a debate watching party/Rebecca Kaplan fundraiser.

Everybody should go! As Becks says:

I’d love to see many of you there, not only because I want to see you support Rebecca’s campaign but because I’d love to have the blogoaksphere community together for one night. I’ve been wanting to plan a proper get together not affiliated with anything else, but that’s not going to happen until after the election so this will have to substitute as a great chance for all of us to meet, talk politics, and share our love for Oakland.

If you want to see Kaplan’s face on the City Council, please, donate what you can, even if it doesn’t seem like much. Contributions of $25-50 really do add up, and you need money to win these races. And this is a way more fun way to make a contribution than through Paypal. Here’s the details:

When: Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Where: Geoffrey’s Inner Circle, 410 14th Street in downtown Oakland
How Much: $30 – $300 sliding scale
More Info:
Geoffrey’s is easily accessible by public transit. Use the 12 Street BART Station (exit at the 14th Street side) or take AC Transit lines 1/1R, 51, 72, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, or 40.

    I just read this:

Apparently, a wide variety of very rich people are trying to buy this election for Kerry Hamill. Read the link. It’s appalling. Most of the money seems to be coming from outside Oakland, and most of it seems to be coming from PACs, who are paying for all of the mailers and signs you see from Hamill.

I’m not rich, but I’m going go to this event, and donate more to Rebecca. My modest donations aren’t going to buy me any favors.

But if Hamill’s connections are trying to buy her the election with shady PAC money, who will own her once she’s in office?

I just just got home from Rebecca’s fundraiser and she spoke very forcefully and well about Oakland’s foreclosure issues. The woman really knows her stuff! We had a great time watching the debate, and for one of the best candidates out there.

Damn straight. I think that was the most energetic and impassioned speech I’ve seen in this entire campaign. Rebecca rocks. She’s the real deal. Volunteer for her! I’m walking this weekend and you all should too.

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night. The event was a huge success, and a lot of fun. I posted some photos over at my blog and some info about how to get involved with the campaign.
